The Software versions on my PG are older than the versions used to program some of our newer machines.
How do I update my versions?

My partner in crime, has a new PG, with newer software versions, can i just update them from his installation disc, or will i cause myself problems??

The only way I know of to update your versions is to buy an upgrade or subscription from Siemens.

Problems...Yes. The fundamental problem is that your license is keyed to the version. If, for example, you have a 5.1 license key and then install the 5.3 software, your license will no longer work.

From my expeerience (5.1 to 5.3 and SP updates), you won't have a problem opening the old projects in the new versions. However, the moment you save them, you're unable to open them in the old versions.

It's not a problem with a legit upgrade, though.

(What, still no answer on that other site?)
