Hidden Lines

Hidden Lines

Hidden Lines

(OP)

Let me pose this question to you all...

I am working on a part where I want hidden lines to show up on the main body of the part, and the fasteners to stay hidden.

Now here is the procedure I have done on the dwg...

in the view I want to see hidden lines, I right click>properties>Hidden lines> I select the part. the hidden lines show up... then I have dim'd & annotated the part. Then when I go to print the dwg, I select the "high quality view" and then most (not all) of the (dashed) hidden lines disappear.

I don't understand why this is happening. Any ideas?

RE: Hidden Lines

I don't know why that is happening, but if you RMB the parts in the tree, then select the Show/Hide > Show Hidden Edges option, I think you will find that method less flaky than the one you described.

CbL,

I would agree with you, but It would be very time consuming for me to do this, since I get all the fasteners (about 200) and I only want to see the face (head) of the them when i am normal to the view. They are mixed up (not so simple to select a bunch at once).

Right now, i'm printing this off in Draft quality, but I can see that this will become an ongoing issue, and one that i'll have to deal with when I am asked for a final print.

RE: Hidden Lines

Show/Hide > Show Hidden Edges only applies to the part(s) you have selected...therefore only select the Main Body before you select this.

RE: Hidden Lines

Depending upon how you created the fasteners, you may be able to create simplified configs of them. (i.e. the head only).

You could then create a simplifed config of your assy using those simplified fasteners.

All the fasteners could be placed into a folder in the assy to enable them to be selected 'en masse'.

CbL,

It' just seems like a long solution to functionality that should be (is) part of the program.

RE: Hidden Lines

Have you reported the bug with the printing?

Why should this be a part of the program?  Which standard are you using?  What you want to do isn't ANSI drawing standards and SW tries to stick with national standards not "company standards".
You might want to try CBL's suggestion of creating a simplified config with the head only as a work-around.

HIDDEN LINES ARE TO BE USED ONLY WHEN REQUIRED FOR CLARITY AND SHALL CONSIST OF SHORT DASHES EVENLY SPACED. THEY SHALL BEGIN WITH A DASH...

1. Hidden lines are perfectly acceptable when used for purposes of providing clarity under ASME Y14.100-2000.

2. SWx will allow for exactly what I want to happen when in draft quality... but It turns off ONLY WHEN IN HIGH QUALITY VIEW MODE! - To me, this seems like a bug... Not an issue of standards...

Anyway, I solved the problem, by sketching in the 4 hidden lines that i needed. Thanks for your help though...

Sorry, I thought you meant that you only wanted to show the head of the fastener and not show the body.

RE: Hidden Lines

We have an obsolete HP plotter, and if we try to use high quality for printing, the text in dimensions shows up as solid blocks. I have not tried anything with hidden lines, though.
