Checking in assemblies in PDM Works

Checking in assemblies in PDM Works

Checking in assemblies in PDM Works

(OP)
Hi. This may seem like a very simple question but I can't find the answer to it anywhere. Lets say I have an assembly with 10 parts in it. I check it out of the vault and make some changes that alter 4 parts. Now I select the assembly and try to check it back in. I would have thought that it was possible now to have PDM Works identify the 4 files that were change and tick the boxes beside them that means they get checked in too. For me it seems i have to manually check the box beside the filename. Secondly, in the file explorer within solidwork some of the 6 files that I did not change have a green upwards arrow beside them indicating that they are newer than what is in the vault even though I did not make any changes to them. Why is this anyone?

What I would like to do is to be able to select the modified assembly in the file explorer, right click and check in this document. I would have thought that a program like this would then allow for all 'altered' parts drawings referened to this assembly to be quickly, automatically check in to. Is this not the case?

Thanks in advance,

RE: Checking in assemblies in PDM Works

If top down design, if saving assy, all ref parts will be updated. I have seen not all times boxes are auto checked even if have been changed. To check in dwg, you have to select box to select ref dwgs for each file. Do you have 05 or 06? Both are a little different.

I'm using SW2006 and PDM 2006, SP3. I don't get autochecked boxes for parts even when I have open them from within the assembly, edited them and saved them. For the most part I would say me assemblies are top down designs. As i said in my 1st post, I then see part that PDM Works is telling me are newer than the ones in the vault even though I have not made any changes to them.

RE: Checking in assemblies in PDM Works

What I do to get the boxes automatically checked is to take ownership of parts and drawings that I am changing before I start any changes. This also prevents me from working on a part someone else is changing. Then when I check in a part that I have ownership, the box is automatically checked. Do not take ownership of an assembly and all children. Release Ownership (if applicable) during check-in not afterwards.

RE: Checking in assemblies in PDM Works

We also have the problem where parts appear to be modified even though they were no changes made. Our VAR advised this is something SolidWorks are working on and they provided a SPR number for it. Hopefully this will be fixed in SP4.0

This seems to be a SolidWorks problem (not PDM) - we have only recently installed PDM but previously we noticed that when we opened an assembly, an asterix (*) appeared next to the file name, indicating it needed a change - PDM just highlights it more!
