AASHTO T-88 Wash Portion ONLY

(OP)
Hello, I am having a problem determining the total amount of material needed for a particle size analysis wash portion only. I have always known that florida dot required a minimun of 300 grams  per wash for a fine soil (-4 Material). But a particle size analysis calls for 110 grams for sandy soil and 60 grams for clay. Any information is greatly appeciated! Thank You, enggal2

RE: AASHTO T-88 Wash Portion ONLY

The AASHTO method defines the minimum amount of material to be used to obtain the gradation to a specified level of accuracy. However, we all bend to the wishes of the local agency when they are paying for the testing - as long as the amount exceeds the AASHTO minimum, there is no problem from a technical point of view.

Sorry, I don't have my AASHTO specs handy to comment on or verify your specific interpretation of the requirements of T 88.
