Welders approval EN287

Welders approval EN287

Welders approval EN287

(OP)
Approving welders acc to EN287 I have encountered quite strange thing.
In order to make range of approval for TIG welders wider I decided that test welding should be performed on pipe in HL-045 position, W03 material group (yield strength > 360  N/mm2). The joint then shall pass visual and radiography examination and no destructive tests.
Actually, there is no big difference between tig welding of W01 and W03 group, especially if to take into account only VT and RT requirements, so a welder should just confirm his skills to make a sound weld without surface and internal defects. I understand that some but NOT ALL W03 steels are subjected to cold cracking and some of them stand quite near to W01 group.
Interesting, could I use for test W01 steel? smile
