Vault

Vault

(OP)
Does anyone use AutoDesk Vault? I use PDMWorks, but I need to implement Vault at our workplace for now because the license is in place already.
Can AutoCAD files be renamed or moved with in Vault without affecting xref's or other linked dwgs?
thanks,
Chris

RE: Vault

ctopher,

My colleague here uses vault along with inventor.  In general, your answer is "yes", but you have to do it the way vault wants you to, or you will lose the links.  I.e. you can copy a bunch of files representing a design, and the links should transfer (i.e. parts of the design referencing other design files in the same copied folder should still be linked).  Also, if the referenced files are kept in a "shared" folder (e.g. Content Center files) the links will remain intact.  Moving or renaming files, however, esp. ACAD files with direct file tree pointers, will probably break links if you just "move" them to a new folder, and then try to reopen them in ACAD.
