Flow Over a Hump

Flow Over a Hump

Flow Over a Hump

(OP)
Hello Everyone!
I am conducting an experiment which is "Flow Over a Hump in an Open Channel" using water.  I just wanted to ask what type of channel would be best to use, flume, rectagular, or others?  Also , what materials are good for this experiment?>

Thanks, Richard

RE: Flow Over a Hump

I submit a flume. why, I like flumes.

RE: Flow Over a Hump

I like flumes too, but I'd use a rectangular channel so I could change the hump geometry without a lot of fuss.  Maybe even dynamically, e.g. a sheet metal hump forced up by a hydraulic cylinder from the bottom of a plywood channel.

If you want to undertake a more ambitious, and practically useful, experiment, consider this:  Find a way to apportion water from a stream among consumers who are distributed along the stream, using passive, simple technology, that is effective over a wide range of stream flows.

RE: Flow Over a Hump

I did this for my final year project and used a glass sided rectangular channel and various thicknesses of mild steel plate to make the hump.

RE: Flow Over a Hump

What outcome/s are you looking for - an "experiment" without an outcome is not an experiment - just a waste of time and effort.

Also, I agree with "dicksewerrat (Civil/Environme)" --

It's your experiment - so you make the decisions.
