emergency generator

emergency generator

(OP)
I am confused about somet things regarding the installation of a 50kw gas-fired emergency generator. A 200A automatic transfer switch is also provided and connected to the generator.  NEC 445.18 required a disconnecting means. It seems that these generators come with factory provided built-in load circuit breakers as well as emergency shut off switches.  Is a disconnect switch still necessary?  Do I have to size the load circuit breaker?  I am unsure what all needs to be done on the design aspect of this as well how to size everything involved.  If anyone can point me to a good source to learn these things, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks!

RE: emergency generator

The factory installed load circuit breaker should work as the generator disconnecting means.  Depending on the project location, layout, and state interpretation of code requirements you may need a second disconnect at the point the circuit enters the building.  Load breaker is typically sized by the gen set manufacturer based on generator rating.
