How to Extract Coordinates from Surface?

How to Extract Coordinates from Surface?

How to Extract Coordinates from Surface?

(OP)
How would I pass a plane through a 3D surface, get an intersection line, and extract say 500 x,y,z coordinates from the line which in this case would be some spline?  I know how to get the intersection line but getting the points is something else.

This is fairly easy in UG but I don't know how in Solidworks.

MAybe if you explained how this is done in UG someone in this forum may be able to help you recreate those steps in SolidWorks.

RE: How to Extract Coordinates from Surface?

The basic problem is that I'm not a designer so I'm just learning this.  As soon as we can get another designer I'll be asking him/her to do it.  It'll take too long for me to be proficient.

I'd have to ask a UG guy how to do it specifically but my recollection having watched one do it is to select the line and ask UG to put x number of points along it.  Which menus I used I couldn't say.  It was 3-4 yrs ago.

Thanks for your help though.
