Knock out pot design

Knock out pot design

Knock out pot design

(OP)
I am replacing an old knock out pot placed after a condenser with a new one. The knock out pot has no mesh on it (it is placed on a vent line and I prefer any mesh that could help in blocking the line)

Is the  Souders-Brown equation the one to use despite not having a mesh?

I normally try to kepp the relation Height/Diameter of the K.O between 3 and 5?

Is this right?

Thanks

RE: Knock out pot design

I suggest you visit thread124-10444 and read carefully the response by Mr Montemayor.

There are some ROT on demisters. For example, they are not used on fouling services.

Linear maximum vertical vapor velocities at low-to-moderate pressures are estimated from K*(ρLV - 1)1/2

ρL: density of liquid
ρV: density of vapor

Where K factors for minimum entrainment are selected as 0.15 w/o demister, and 0.30 with demister.

This is because demisters require a certain momentum (i.e. velocities) to efficiently coalesce fine mists impinging on the demister pad.
