Welded cruciform joint under pure bending

Welded cruciform joint under pure bending

(OP)
Hello

I am modeling symmetric load carrying welded cruciform joint under four point bending. Why does extreme tensile fiber stress dips below nominal fiber stress(far away from weld) at about thickness away from the weld toe before peaking due to discuntinuity of weld? Tensile case is clear cut. I am way below yield. Same behavior shows 4/8 node shells, fully integrated or reduced integration. I am not sure if this behavior is real. I would expect fiber stress to rise from its nominal value as approaching weld toe.

Thanks.
