Removing a powdercoat finish
Removing a powdercoat finish
(OP)
I have some large parts from a testing fixture which were powdercoated when originally produced a few years ago.
We need to removing the powdercoat and replace it with a a variety of surface finishes on certain parts of the fixture. Down to a 8 finish.
Anybody have some experience removing powedercoat finish? The parts have a complex surface geometry which makes machining it off difficult. I wonder if it could be bead blasted or cooked off in some way.
Any information you hae would be appreciated.

A local coating company uses wet sandblasting to recover powdercoated parts. The grit is tailored to final finish desired.
Usually a powdercoat prep is considerably rougher than an 8 so you should look to having to perform a secondary operation to achieve the desired finish if the parts are not currently at the desired finish.
The equipment that I use.
