Fabtrol MRP

Fabtrol MRP

Fabtrol MRP

(OP)
I looked at thread301-99617.  Our company recently purchased Fabtrol MRP, drawing management and material management modules.

We are finding that the many, many pre-packaged reports available do not meet our needs (which are pretty basic - we are a structural steel fabricator w/ 22 employees).

Fabtrol's support for cutomizing reports is pretty much limited to helping you add lines and change fonts.....  we didn't realize this when we bought the software.

Has anyone out there been able to customize these reports?  For now, I am dumping the data to MS Access and manipulating it there.

RE: Fabtrol MRP

I am currently working at my 2nd structural steel fabricator using Fabtrol.  We have MRP version 1.2

My task at my former company involved setting up autoparts for estimating, autoassemblies for estimating.  Same thing at the new place, plus I have been estimating with it for 2 years.

I do have some experience with "adjusting" reports in Fabtrol.  Always remember, each report is a small database application.  Each report goes into tables of data, and looks for the pertinent data, then outputs to a report format (or excel file, or pdf file - if you choose.)

A good understanding of programming in microsoft visual foxpro is invaluable.  Sometimes it is possible to look at one report, discover the formulas, copy them, and paste them into a different report.  Too often, the report is in a module that will NOT allow acces to a different table of data, so you'll never have ANY joy changing the report.

Can I ask, do you use LaborMate?  Do you use autoassemblies?  Or are you using Fabtrol for drawing, material, or production management?

We are using the Material Management and Drawing Management modules of Fabtrol.  My main problem has been trying to produce cutlists for small parts that provide enough information (i.e., which material to use, identified by PO#) without providing too much, confusing information.  The Expanded Cutlist is pretty close, but we would like it better if we could get rid of the summaries at the top of each material type - we don't want to encourage double-cutting.  I've ended up dumping the BOM, Expanded Cutlist and Part List into MS Access to make a report that works for us.....  this can be a real pain as we do a lot of small jobs - generating a lot of cut lists.
