Draft Qs SW2005
Draft Qs SW2005
(OP)
We have a large hollow Aluminum feature that resembles a box. 28" Tall x 8" wide x 4" thick, the split line travels in a zig zag fashion down through the center. Unfortunately when adding draft to each side the edges are at different heights due to the 3° of draft over the length of the face.
Is there anyway to select a variable amount of draft will having a minimum of 3°?

Meanwhile, have you tried the parting line draft instead of draft from a plane?

RE: Draft Qs SW2005
We are trying to keep all the outside edges uniform in thickness, the only way to do this is to use the step draft function. Problem is now there is the raised section along the split line.
I was think perhaps maybe a filled surface would be able to fix this. To bad can't specify a minimum draft angle and let solidworks compute all the draft angles.

RE: Draft Qs SW2005
On one side of the loft use a composite curve to collect the edges of the PL, and draw a straight line on the other. Loft the stepped PL to the straight model edge. I would do this as a surface loft and use the Replace Face function.

The yellow faces were done using the regular PL draft tool, the orange were made with the lofted surface and cut with surface tools.
The "draft to edge" function would be very useful. I'll submit an enhancement for that.
