Yield Stress of A572?

Yield Stress of A572?

Yield Stress of A572?

(OP)

I am looking for Yield stress of A572 or A588M at elevated temperatures (up to 900F). I know their yield stress at ambient is 50 ksi. I am a Mechanical Engineer and never used this material before. Searched in ASME section II partD (Material properties) coud not even find the material spec.

Appreciate it..

Just a bump!

Anyone knows the yield strength of A572 at higher temps.

Thanks

RE: Yield Stress of A572?

You will need to get this data from the steel supplier or have your own tests done. Also, the data will valid for that supplier only, as the various suppliers of HSLA steels all have their own little chemistry and controlled cooling variations, which would have an effect on yield strength at 900F.

RE: Yield Stress of A572?

Ref: ASD 9th ed pg 6-3.
yield strength ratio for construction steels are:

at 800 deg F:       .77
at 1000 deg F:      .63

At 900 deg I would guess 70% of 50 ksi = 35 ksi yield

Thanks a lot guys.

I used 35 ksi @ 900F Per ASD. Makes sense.

RE: Yield Stress of A572?

For whatever reasons, some steel grades have been developed from a structural viewpoint, some from pressure vessel viewpoint.  These are "structural", so don't get used in the tank/vessel market much yet.  A516-70 is a common vessel plate that you don't see used structurally much.
