How accurate are the air flow measurement turbines?
Our own testing on flowbenches shows that the air flow turbines are extremely linear and quite accurate for volumetric flow measurement. The honeycomb at the top and bottom eliminates variations due to vortices and keeps the turbine from imparting any rotating velocity to the incoming air stream at the engine inlet. Calibration of each turbine provides accuracy of about ± 1% of reading.
Independent laboratory testing by customers has shown that the SuperFlow air turbines are as accurate as laboratory-grade air flow measurement devices costing up to 20 times more, yet are easier to install and have much less pressure drop than these devices, resulting in negligible influence on actual engine performance during the test.
SuperFlow has sold many air turbines as sensors to customers who do not necessarily own a SuperFlow dynamometer, including Formula 1 engine manufacturers, university labs, research facilities, and calibration laboratories.
