Not that this is a specific design. I don't get into concrete design too much but some. When designing concrete walls under flexure, how would one design and detail shear reinforcing. ACI 318 ch.14 references you ch. 11 which discusses stirrups, bent bars. Other than thickening the wall?

RE: Design of concrete walls

Most wall designs do not use stirrups and thus do not rely on Vs but only on Vc in the Chapter 11 shear provisions.

Wall thickness and f'c are then adjusted to account for the required Vn of the wall.

RE: Design of concrete walls

I have never come across a wall with shear links in it.  The standard practice where I come from is just to thicken the wall, batter it if necessary.  Links in a wall are a real hassle to fix and best avoided if possible.

RE: Design of concrete walls

You probably won't need much reinforcing for out-of-plane shear.  I would expect the out-of-plane wall design to be controlled by flexure or deflection.  For in-plane shear, you have horizontal bars along the length of the wall.

Thats what I thought, but this always made me curious. Thank you
