Solidworks World 2006
Solidworks World 2006
(OP)
For those of us that didn't get to go, Solidworks has posted some podcast mp3's on their website.
htt p://www.so lidworks.c om/pages/n ews/MediaP casts.html
So far, some of things announced look very interesting. Cosmos Motion will be included in the Office Premium package. As of SP4, users of Premium will be able to use it.
Another interesting tidbit from the 2007 podcast was some mention of implementing PDM in the core of Solidworks. Not sure if this means everyone gets PDM/Works for free or if they just enhanced the multi-user options we already have. Considering Vault comes with Inventor for free, then maybe PDM/Works will be offered. We'll see soon enough.
64bit Solidworks is scheduled to be released in a week or so. Basically it sounds like there will be one Solidworks that can run in either 64bit or 32bit mode depnding on the operating system. Files will be compatable either way.
Last, from SoCalMike on comp.cad.solidworks, 2007 files will be 50% smaller. Wonder if they are just compressing the files som way or of they managerd to defrag the files on save.

RE: Solidworks World 2006
It was really cool seeing my work on not one but three huge screens in front 3700 people! I'm not exactly sure what the prize package consists of but I believe Cosmos Designer is on the list. WOW!
Also, the SW2007 preview was exciting! SW is really offering some advanced technology in their new SWIFT interface. The push-pull surfacing deformation functionality was also amazing.
I actually recieved an alpha testing sneak peek of SW2007 on Sat (before the confrence). Because of the NDA I can't reveal (or talk about) anything I saw but I can say the things shown at the general session Wednesday are just the major highlights, there is a lot more.
I'm in Vegas a couple more days (brief vacation) be back on line Monday.

RE: Solidworks World 2006
Real envious of all those in Vegas, but holy crap did I get a ton done this week. Probably would have lost my shirt in vegas and been hungover in all the sessions.
Thanks for the info on it guys.
