What is the minimum value for Carbon equivalent for ASTM A105 foged fittings?

RE: carbon equivalent

Use the CE equivalent formula (IIW) and insert the chemical composition results or ranges from A 105.

The formula is as follows;

CE = C + Mn/6 + (Cr+Mo+V)/5 + (Ni+Cu)/15

All elements are expressed in weight percent amounts.

RE: carbon equivalent

There is no defined minimum value, only a maximum if S11 is stipulated. I have seen C as low as 0.12% and Mn as low as 0.60% in specific (small size) A 105 forgings.

RE: carbon equivalent

The maximum carbon equivalent, based on heat analysis shall be 0.47 for forgings with a maximum section thickness of 2 in. or less, and 0.48 for forgings with a maximum section thickness of greater than 2 in.

RE: carbon equivalent

nuke1973,
I agree with standweld that there is no defined minimum CE value for A105. The maximum CE value should be your controlled parameter.

Please advise me about your specific application to control the minimum CE value.
