motor design software

(OP)
Hi everyone
Iam just curious about what kind of motor design software u r using? Can I have a hint ....

RE: motor design software

place1234,
I currently use Magsoft products (FLUX2D and FLUX3D)for motor design.  They are however FEM programs and are not strictly for design of motors.  The Motor-CAD software is great for themal design of motors.  You will need more if you are trying to design the electromagnetics.  The SPEED laboratory (Glasgow, Scottland) offers motor design software for AC, DC, Brushless DC, and Switched Reluctance motors.  It also has FEM capabilities.  Of the motor companies that I have worked for in the past, all had devloped their own motor design software.

RE: motor design software

SPEED for me too

Motor design software is very expensive and difficult to produce, due to:
- the large number of different motor types (software is specific to each type)
- the difficulty in modelling (complex analytical models)
- electromagnetic, thermal and possibly mechanical constraints must be incorporated
- plenty of empirical test data is required
- implementation into code
- heavy support requirements
And then of course, you aren't going to sell many copies.

SPEED looks a bit expensive, but it's actually very good value in my opinion, and unmatched in its scope.

Like Clyde38, long established companies I have worked for have developed there own design programs, but it is usually very limited in its applicability and it took years to produce.
