Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

(OP)
SWX 2005 sp5.0

I have a question regarding how to make some parts show up in an Excel based BOM.

Level A = I have a main assembly.
Level B = In that main assembly there are three identical sub-assemblies.
Level C = Within those three sub-assemblies, there are other sub-assemblies (weldments). (customer insists on drawing weldments as sub-assy's, don't ask)

I need the BOM to be able to list all of the components through Level B but I do not want any of the sub-components from the sub-assemblies/weldments in Level C to show up.

Assuming my description makes ANY sense, is this possible?

Thanks

RE: Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

Use the Show top level assemblies and parts only option when inserting the Excel BOM.

cheers

I think I explained it wrong.  Your suggestion would work if my main assembly was Level B.  I need the bom to list the top level parts and sub-assemblies contained within the three sub-assemblies in Level B.

RE: Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

Just realised I misread your question. Answer should have been;

Select the Show assemblies and parts in an indented list option & use the Contents section to deselect  the parts you do not want in the BOM, when inserting the Excel BOM.

I think that is going to work, thanks for your help.

RE: Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

If you need this for all weldment sub-ass'ys, try this:

Open the weldment sub and go to the configurations tab.
Right-click the config used in the upper level ass'y (i.e., Default) and go to Properties.
Check the box that says "Don't show child components in BOM when used as a sub-assembly"

This property will follow the weldment anywhere it is used.

One warning - I am not sure if this works for the Excel based BOM or if it is only for the SWx table BOM.

I am almost there, but I am still having one problem.

The first column in the customers Excel BOM is the ItemNo.  the only things that are numbered are the items in the Level A assembly.  Is there a way to force it to number everything in the BOM and also skip the ones I hide?

RE: Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

Not in SW2005.

Darn...but there is one in 2006?

RE: Sub-assy Components showing up in BOM

diamondcat,
If I do not want a part to show up in the excel BOM I suppress the part in the assembly. You can also do this in configurations. I tell my associates to never hide a part in the assembly to keep it off the drawing. Because if someone a year from now un-hides all, it will show up in the drawing. They must hide the part in the tree of the drawing itself.

Well, I ended up reconfiguring the Level A assembly.  I took one of the main sub-assemblies and inserted two of the other sub-assemblies into it.  The problem I am having now is that when I dissolve the two sub-assemblies I just inserted, the patterns within them dissapear.  I saw a thread that seemed to have a similar problem but I didn't understand the way to fix it.
Any clue how to keep them intact?
Thanks
