The Wrong Trousers

The Wrong Trousers

(OP)
Hi,

my system:

Pentium 4 3.0ghz 200mhz fsb
2048mb ram 400mhz 2 x 1gb dual channel
80gb maxtor 7200rpm hdd
ATI FireGL X1 128MB
windows 2000 sp1
solidworks 2005 sp3.0

we have 3 seats of sw all identical
my system is used like a server by the other two pcs,
all sw parts, drawings and assemblies are stored on my pc
we are on a 100 mbps ethernet LAN

my problem:
i have an assembly with less than 30 basic parts
i have a drawing of this assembly
when i make a section of one of the views then move or scale it, the sw session hangs for between 40 and 60 seconds. all settings are at minimum, all parts are set to lightweight.

Please help
confused

RE: The Wrong Trousers

Do not quote me on this but I believe the parts must be fully resolved.  I think the extra time is due to SolidWorks resolving the parts.

RE: The Wrong Trousers

Also see if it's "faster" to add a cut feature to your assembly that accomplishes your section view. Make a unique configuration for it & use that for your drawing. That soometimes works better for me.

I think I have the solution.

My centreline was off by a micron.
my centreline was not extend to outside the drawing view box.

the section view is now much faster.

thanks for the answers guys.

RE: The Wrong Trousers

FYI... our VAR told us that PDMWorks 2005 does not require all parts to be fully resolved prior to check-in.  PDMW2004 did, though.
