PDMWorks Numbering

PDMWorks Numbering

PDMWorks Numbering

(OP)
Ive been reading through many of the other threads which talk about numbering. I work for a small company weve just started using PDMWorks and to be honest we havent really had much of a numbering system previously. What I would like to do is install a simple numbering system  (sequential) which would apply to autocad as well as solidworks drawings any help would be greatly apprieciated.

RE: PDMWorks Numbering

Alan,

Your best bet IMO is to simply start an Excel file with a numbering sequence you decide on in your network, but set it up so only one person can write to it at a time, and remember to include dates/names/etc.  For file names in Solidworks use just the number ie. 123456.sldprt with NO revision, PDM will take care of that once you are used to it.  Don't use and text in your file name, add all the descriptions and such in your custom properties, you'll be able to search/display that info however you want it.  If you have many files already, SW explorer can help you rename without much trouble.

For Acad files, I would include the revision letter in the file name, unless you force everyone to use PDM works for their Acad files.  And if you're like me, if you have to convert SW drawings to ACAD, using the revision level helps.  Don't forget to make a Mapping file to make your SW drawings look like your Acad files.

Hope that helps.

John
