looking to convert GDS II file formats into dxf for ansys

(OP)
hello
i am looking to convert GDS II file formats into cad or ansys format. I heard of a program called Linkcad which cand do this. Im having problems with the demo version and to purchase it is really expensive. Can anyone suggest another way or haeva working program  in which i can  make GDS II files compatable with ansys Such as DXF so i may import them??
thanks

RE: looking to convert GDS II file formats into dxf for ansys

First of all, you have to make sure you can import the type of file chosen into ANSYS given your licence. The standard import format (which you get free with your ANSYS licence) is IGES. Anything else and you need to pay for as an addition to the licence. This may sway you in terms of how you want to go. DXF cannot be imported as far as I know. If you have autocad the standard connection product is based on a SAT geometry format, but you will need an upgrade on your licence to import this (as explained above). Looking at LinkCAD conversion formats at  http://www.linkcad.com/site/formats it appears none of these formats are compatible with ANSYS. Check the software that the  GDSII file was created in and see whether it can output any other geometry format (IGES, SAT, PARASOLID, STEP, etc.).

RE: looking to convert GDS II file formats into dxf for ansys

Thnaks for the info. THe linkcad i mentioned is in two types linkcad for standard cad based products and "linkcad for ansys" sse thsi link www.linkcad-ansys.com.
Anyway i will keep playing around with it, i have been trying all of the above named formats that you mentioned. I heavily use solid works and inventor however the reason i was looking at link cad is that when i bring in a sinple 2d drawing in iges format for example some of the paramerter and lines get distorted and are not where they should be. I have found in the past the i would spend as much time tidying up these errors as i would just drawing a new part itself. i was really looking at quick way to bring alot of 2d drawings from the gdsII format.
