Are you specifying Pipe or HSS round sections?
Are you specifying Pipe or HSS round sections?
(OP)
I still specify pipe at 35 ksi (ASTM A53 B) probably because I'm just stuck in my ways.
I'm curious if other firms have been updating their standards to incorporate a switch from pipe to HSS (A500) callouts.
I have looked at threads on this site, other sites, looked at availability charts, as well as looking at the AISC web site and they all say its available for use. However, I called a few other firms and they still spec pipe at 35 ksi.
I think we'd all like to save the owner 31% steel cost in short columns ([46-35]/35). So are you specifying pipe or HSS round sections?

I don't specify pipe much at all. Others at my firm use only pipe in their specs.
