nitrogen piping dimension
nitrogen piping dimension
(OP)
Hi,
I have a nitrogen pipe dimensioning quote from a contractor that I want to check upon.
figures are :
. pressure : 6 bar
. flow rate : 200Nm³/h at 0°C (55 liter/ sec)
. pipe length around 110 meters.
. nitrogen already evaporated into a gas fase
. temperature nitrogen in pipe during winter -20°C, in summer +50°C
How do I proceed to find the correct pipe diameter when not having any technical documentation at my disposal?
thanks for an answer.

RE: nitrogen piping dimension
Velocity limits are usually set by company specs. Velocities over 30 m/sec for gases typically end up having excessive pressure drops for long distance runs though they may be adequate for short runs. Velocity can also be limited to avoid the potential for errosion if it's not totally dry. Higher velocities also can create noise issues.
A 6" line seems very large for this flow rate. Is this another case such as upset or startup that may require this size line?

Good luck,

Any fittings?
What is the allowable pressure drop?
Is this CS and schedule 40?
Any velocity restrictions?
Good luck,
