Linking dimensions to notes in DRW

Linking dimensions to notes in DRW

(OP)
Does anyone know how to include two dimension in a note.  It could be something like NOTE: c'bore dim 1 depth dim 2.  I know c'bore can be done another way but it is a simple example.

In ProE the & symbol acheives this function.

Thanks,

Kevin

While you are typing the note, select the dimension.  The dim will be placed in the note and will update if the dim changes.

MElam,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Your suggestion revealed a weekness in my question.  Is it possible to add a dimension to, say, an existing hole diameter dimension?

RE: Linking dimensions to notes in DRW

I don't think it will work on dimensions. You could insert the other dimension linked into a note, position the note next to the first dimension, select them both, right click and "Group" to keep them together.

RE: Linking dimensions to notes in DRW

As far as I know, it only works in notes - not other dims.

I have done something similar by adding a note linked to the dims, then delete or hide the originals.  I did it to get a radius dim to attach to a multi-jog leader.

Of course. My pet peeve example:
How many times have you had a blind bore or pocket and then for the depth you had to add an "As Shown" or something like that where the machinist would have to find some other dimension to get the depth. Wouldn’t it be nice to have all that info in one spot?

Or maybe a stepped hole? This would allow you to form a custom bore/depth callout with multiple diameters and depths.

I run into this all the time when deesigning hydraulic manifolds.

Spot face dims
Rough bore cavity dims
Cavity detail dims

RE: Linking dimensions to notes in DRW

OK, I understand the question now. However, the same can be achieved using the Annotations function. At least it attempts to anyway. Tolerances on depths & angled bottom holes excepted.
