Role of Traction Control?

Role of Traction Control?

Role of Traction Control?

(OP)
In a recent thread inre: Torque Steer, I had mentioned that when you mash the gas on my New Impala SS, it wants to drive into the woods. I was contacted by GM, and advised to turn off the Traction Control. What I had thought was torque steer waqs the TC module taking over. They were corrct!. I turned off TC, and the Impala will smoke the tires, in a straight line, no torque steer at all. This now has me wondering what my actual need is for Torque Control. It's usefullness in snow or wet weather is obvious, but what good is it if I am losing control of my car on dry pavement. Why does it cause feedback through the steering system? Why is the default setting with the TC on at start-up? The GM execs want to know why anyone would turn it off

RE: Role of Traction Control?

A long time ago, Ford claimed to solve the torque steer problem on the Taurus SVO by lowering the gear ratio so heavy throttle would smoke the tires.  Ford stated "spinning tires don't suffer torque steer".  I think if this is true, that is the effect here, Traction contol doesn't cause torque steer per se, but spinning the tires eliminates it.
