distance sensor

I am looking for a sensor to measure distance (less than three feet) to the pavement from a position mounted on a vehicle. The position should be represented by an electrical signal such as 4-20mA, PWM or something of that nature. Someone gave me a name of 'parallax'. Not sure if this is a trade name or what. If anyone can recommend a mfg or point me in a direction I would appreciate it. Thanks Buzzp

Thanks I will check these out. Buzzp

RE: distance sensor

Hi,
I am not sure whether you are looking for a continuous output for distance but there is a "surveying" instrument marketed by Leica known as as DISTO which will measure that sort of distance up till about 100m. This device can be linked to computer and set up in tracking mode for continuous tracking of distances. It uses a LASER beam.

RE: distance sensor

There are several ultrasonic sensors which do what you want.

Thanks to all for the posts. I did find a laser sensor that meets our needs as well as an ultrasonic. The lasers are $3000 plus and the ultrasonic we settled on is made by banner engineering(getting sample to try). Disto is handheld and does not have accuracy we need. Thanks again
