soild rivet as double shear pivot?

soild rivet as double shear pivot?

soild rivet as double shear pivot?

(OP)
I am thinking of using a solid rivet as a pivot.  The rivet will be in double shear.  The application is essentially a lever pivoting on a fulcrum; the lever (aluminum) is folded over the fulcrum (carbon epoxy composite) like a clevis.  The rivet would go through all 3 portions.  The materials are 1.5mm(al) - 1.5mm(composite) - 1.5mm(al) thick, but I would still like to use a double flush (counter sunk on both sides)  rivet for cosmetic reasons.  I am concerned that the pivoting action of the lever may cause the rivet to gall against one or more of the edges of the joint creating a stress concentration in the rivet.  Cannot have a failure in this joint, and don't want it to be user serviceable (retail application).

Does anyone have experience with this type of joint?  Any advice or info on where to get more info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: soild rivet as double shear pivot?

I'd expect to see that sort of construction in a toy.

How about we refine it a bit and add a spacer tube over the rivet, so that it can operate as intended? Then if it chews up the composite, press a bush into the composite.

Cheers

What are the loads?

Rivets are used all the time as pivot points in single shear in scissors.
