When I try to calc the I in the steel manual I don't get close. I'm using the regular geometric formula's but I'm off. What would I be doing wrong.

More info please. How do you know your number is off and by how much. Have you checked other sections to see if are still off.

I is Axd*2 plus Io for each component.
That's Area times d squares (distance from the neutral axis squared) plus moment of inertia about it's own NA.

Is that what you are doing?
