Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

(OP)
I'm getting an error when I click on the Hole Wizard button in SolidWorks 05...

"Out of memory or other error trying to initalize data source from standards file 'C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\data\Default.mbd'"

Has anyone else had this problem before? If so how did you go about fixing it?

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

Many times.  I believe the cause is that almost all the Windows resources (for fonts, icons, etc.) have been used up.  If closing and re-opening SolidWorks does not work, then you have to re-boot your computer.

I've tried both, with no luck.

I assume it worked for you?

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

Yes this normally works for me.  However, I am do not know how the Default.mdb file relates to HoleWizard.  This file does not appear to contain any information on my computer.  Does yours contain any information?

Upon searching for it, I've found it doesn't appear to exist. Maybe that's the problem (or maybe I'm not looking correctly). I searched the entire solidworks directory and didn't turn up any file called "default.mbd".

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

I found it on my computer exactly where your error message said it would be.  As I stated earlier, it appears to be an empty file.  However, I just have a copy of SolidWorks; I do not have toolbox, featureworks, etc., so maybe it is used for one of those.  If you have Microsoft access, you could try and create an empty database file and name it Default.mdb otherwise, it is probably on the installation disks somewhere; although you might have to re-install SolidWorks.

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

RCMS,

I did some further investigation.  One of the uses for Default.mdb is to store HoleWizard favorites.  I moved the file out of the SolidWorks data folder to see what would happen if I tried to create a HoleWizard hole.  I did not get the error message you got.  Instead SolidWorks re-created the Default.mdb file.  I then added a favorite.  The favorite was added to the Default.mdb file.  I then deleted the mdb file and tried to edit hole I had just put in using the favorite.  No error message.  SolidWorks just re-created the Default.mdb file again.  Since SolidWorks re-creates the file, I do not know why you cannot find it in the data folder under the SolidWorks folder?

My question now, how long had you been using this installation of SolidWorks before the message occurred?  Did this problem start after SolidWorks crashed?  Did this problem start after installing other software on your computer?  Do you have a VAR that you can contact?

Regg

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

It's done it since day one, I've just found other ways to put holes where I need them up until now.

Let me ask you this... Is there any other way to put a hole at an angle through a part?

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

Yes there is (and hole wizard may not be the correct choice anyway), but you should not ignore the fact that hole wizard is not working.  Since it has done this since day one, I would suggest that you read through the FAQs in this forum on SolidWork Installation.  There is one titled "How do I do a clean uninstall & reinstall of SolidWorks? that should help you.

Great, thanks for all the help.

RE: Error message when attempting to use Hole Wizard

Is it possible you do not have write access to C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\data\?
