Comparing Versions Of Different Files

Comparing Versions Of Different Files

Comparing Versions Of Different Files

(OP)
Problem as follows;

We have up to 3 versions of the same files existing in 3 different project folders. When new projects were created I guess the folder was simply copied over to a new name. We now want to delete the multible versions and keep only one base version. We will then use the 'Searce Paths' in the Config.Pro to locate the files back in the original directory.

What is the easiest way to confirm that all versions are identical?

I know I can use the /Analysis/Compare Part/By Geom -By Feature but there are hundreds of parts, assemblies, drawings etc. It will take forever.
Also I was thinking of simply looking at the version number of the part,
( i.e. /File /Open/ Commands and settings / All Versions )     and if all the version numbers are the same then I can go ahead and delete.

Any Ideas or comments appreciated!

Cheers,
Speedy

RE: Comparing Versions Of Different Files

That is a very bad situation to get into.  I would use the windows search command to find all versions of the same object and compare revision number, file size and modified date.  If everything is the same you can safely delete all the copies.  If not you are going to have to use the analysis/compare part in Pro/E to decide which one is correct.  It is not going to be very pretty.

dgallup,

Thanks for that. Yes I had already started to use windows search as this shows 'time/date of creation'.

It will take some time but worth it in the end.

RE: Comparing Versions Of Different Files

The better way is a small program in Toolkit which will interogate the datestamp of each file. and create a report
