(OP)
I need a CFD tool to better grasp the fundamental concepts of a process involving combustion and chemical reduction of particles suspended in a turbulent gas stream. I don’t have the resources to purchase Fluent, but I was thinking about purchasing the student version of Fluent called studentFLUENT.

http://www.fluent.com/software/studentfluent/index.htm

At $99, the software has most of the functionality of Fluent 6.2, but it is limited to 20,000 elements and does not come with a preprocessor.  It’s not a production tool, however, I was wondering if the software could be a useful in terms of getting a better grasp of Fluent’s CFD solvers and providing a basic/academic level of insight into elements of the process in question?  Does anyone have any advice?

RE: Has anyone every used studentFLUENT?

Hi dubliner75

I have used fluent to model combustion of mixtures (fuel and air) and also to predict NOx formation rate etc.The student edition wont have the gambit programs to be able to create the 3d models , but you can always get the gambit model files provided with the tutorials.
