2005 sp5 Solidworks Bug - Split Line
2005 sp5 Solidworks Bug - Split Line
(OP)
We are working on a cast hollow intake runner and are having problems trying to generate a split line to add draft. When ever we try to generate a split line using the silhouette feature the inside of the part goes transparent. Get this, only one side of the part due to the split line is effected.
Anyone else run into this?

My machine has a Quadra FX 1100 on a P4 3.0 with 1GB RAM. The other machine is a P4 2.8 with 1GB of RAM with a Quadra FX 1000.
I used the latest drivers on the NVidia website approved by solidworks.

The SW site lists 7184 as the latest certified driver.
If you are using 8178, I would uninstall it & use the 7184.

RE: 2005 sp5 Solidworks Bug - Split Line
Tools > Options > Performance > Verification on Rebuild. Turn it ON. It may dramatically slow down your rebuild times (10-60%), but it may also help find the error. Hit CtrlQ. If you're superstitious, hit CtrlQ three times.
If you do not get a cherry in the tree to show where the error is, go to Tools > Check and check the part. This will probably show you either 1 or 3 general faulta or an invalid face or something to that effect.
Other things you can check would be minimum curvature (using Tools Check) or grid lines (using Face Curves). What you're looking for with the face curves would be all the grid lines coming down to a point or doing something unnatural like crossing themselves. With the min radius, you'd be looking for an area with very small radius, say two orders of magnitude less than the rest of the model.
What you're looking for is a portion, usually a corner or an edge where the geometry is afu, fubar or otherwise problematic.
Good luck!
