helical cut out mates

helical cut out mates

(OP)
Hello all,

I am trying to create a mate on 2 parts; first part is a rod with a helical cut out (think lead screw here) and the mating part is a "follower" part which has a feature that fits into the helical groove. but my problem is that I cannot seem to get the tagency mate to work, that is since the follower part has a concentric mate with the rod (so that both parts are in line) and I am using the tagent mate so that the "follower" will rotate about the helical cut as it moves up and down the rod.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

RE: helical cut out mates

Ideally, you would offset your helical surface mid-way between the two slot surfaces and mate the center of your follower rod to be tangent to that mid-way surface.  Sketch a point in the center of your follower rod and sketch two to keep the follower rod perpendicular to your cut part's axis.
