Decals

Decals

(OP)
How do you guys deal with Decals for your products? How do you keep it scaled one-to-one?

Here where I work they want the graphics to mimic the real deal so we don't use representations or outlines. All I'm doing is taking a JPEG of the artwork and placing it on the drawing (so it's free floating). I know in Wildfire 3.0 you will be able to place labels on your parts/assemblies and print them out in the drawing.

Any helpful ideas?

Thanks,

RE: Decals

Depending on the complexity of the decal, you might want to convert it to a DXF and then import this as a cosmetic sketch or wrapped/projected datum curve.

The problem with this is that a seemingly simple decal is usually tough to bring in to Pro/E, especially when it's a JPEG.

To get from JPEG to DXF you can use Illustrator or Streamline by Adobe. There are a few other programs out there that get you from a raster to a vector file, but I haven't seen any as good as the two that I mentioned. The DXF you get will be made up of many spline curves. You can clean it up using AutoCAD or somethig similar.

Either way, sketcher does not like curves of this nature, so importing them this way may not even be an option.

The safest way would be to try and get the original artwork in a vector format and try to convert that directly. I've worked with drawings in EPS, AI and SVG formats that have been brought in to Pro/E with relative ease.
