Toolbox Issue

Toolbox Issue

Toolbox Issue

(OP)
I create an assembly on my computer using toolbox items such as bolts and save it on our network.  When that same assembly gets opened up downstairs on a different computer, Solidworks changes the configuration of some of the toolbok items to different sizes.  Example would be a plate that I put a 1/8 dowel pin in, when opened downstairs, it puts a 1/2 pin in there instead.  Both computers are SW2006, only differance being im at sp2.0, downstairs is at sp0.0  Could the different service pack be the issue?  Also, is it more beneficial to put the toolbox on the network?  I have assigned configuration specific properties to most of the toolbox item I regularly use.

RE: Toolbox Issue

When you save the assembly on the network did you select all in the references and change the path of these references to the network directory. If so you may have saved the toolbox parts in that network directory and it put them in with the default configs.

Just a thought, cause I made this mistake once and made a mess creating new assemblies from sub assemblies, where I couldn't easily place the same screw used in the sub assem cause it said the doc was already opened. I screwed myself (no pun intended) by taking these toolbox screws references away from thier common folder.

RE: Toolbox Issue

MikeInSoCalif,

The problem you describe is consistent with your toolbox fastener being on your local hard drive.  When your co-worker opened your assembly on his machine, the toolbox fastener on his machine was used.  The 1/8 dowel pin was not present.

Placing your toolbox fasteners on the network would solve some of this problem.  It would create the problem of how to insert a new fastener configuration when you are the second person to come in and load the file.

An additional problem I have with toolbox fasteners is the cryptic BOM entries.  I want to generate requisitions by copying and pasting off of my SolidWorks parts lists.  This requires clear specifications, not HSCS .112-40x.375, or whatever it is you get.

A couple of days effort to generate a standard parts library will pay you back quickly.

I am still on SW2003SP5.0 here, so maybe things have improved on the newer versions.

Im working thru the process of moving my toolbox onto the network now.  I found the faq on this site, but I must say that the &quote thing gets anoying reading thru the faq.
