Horizontal storage tank for highly purified water
Horizontal storage tank for highly purified water
(OP)
We are designing a highly purified water system for pharmaceutical plant. There will be a 20 cubic meter purified water storage tank. Due to space constraint, we planned to design a horizontal tank. Would like to know is this a common practice to have horizontal tank in a highly purified water system? What are the pros and cons of a horizontal tank compared to verticle one? Please advise.
Thanks.
Thanks.

RE: Horizontal storage tank for highly purified water
I can tell you that I have a horizontal water tank in my PW skid but but is just for oral dosage form use.

2. Cleaning may not be possible with spray ball and you may have to go for multiple nozzles.
3. You may have to go for higher dead volumes to avoid air ingress into the distribution system due to vortexing.
4. Occupies more floor space.
Before fixing the capacity, just check that you have atleast one volume change per day.

Just some remarks regarding your system:
-Forecast insulation in your loop since you will have it refrigerated, you can have condensation. It will also serve as man protection when you perform sanitizations to the loop
-500 mts is a quite long loop. Be aware of dead legs;
-Construction materials
