SW parts list extraction to Word or Excel?

SW parts list extraction to Word or Excel?

SW parts list extraction to Word or Excel?

(OP)
Is there a way to extract the Feature Tree parts list from solidworks to a word processor such as Word or Excel?
I have a large assembly and I would like to print off a list of all the components (parts) from that assembly without having to create a drawing and produce a bom...

RE: SW parts list extraction to Word or Excel?

Do you have PDMWorks?  If so, and this assembly is in your vault, you can run a report on the assembly which can be exported to Word, Excel, etc.

I don't think you can do what you want without creating a SW drawing with a BOM.  It's only a few clicks, shouldn't be that painful.

Look in SW Help Topics for "bill of materials, Excel-based".

After you have created the drawing, insert an Excel BOM on your SW drawing of the Assy, then click it once, then File>Save As.

You could try going to File/Find References... and select Copy List.

It is probably not exactly what you want (it will list the entire path for each part), but could be a start.

RE: SW parts list extraction to Word or Excel?

I created a macro that can do this.  The API macro is customed for how we name our parts and how we use the SolidWorks program so it would not be much use to you. But this can be done with the use of a macro if you know how.

MrMiller, KenBolen, that macro worked like a charm.

Melam, your method works great too, especially if i want to import the path name/location of each item also.

So for both methods, i imported the data into Excel, designated the Delimiters to separate the data columns, and pasted the data.
