Does this technology exist?

Does this technology exist?

Does this technology exist?

(OP)
I am looking for help in designing a new invention. I guess the best way to ask this question is to provide a scenario.

A man walks into a room and sees a little black box (2 in. cube) with a small light built into the top. He walks over to it, picks it up and nothing happens. A second man walks into the room and picks up the same box and the light comes on. Is there any technology on the market these days that would allow a gadget of this size to recognize a uniqe "owner" and only operate when that owner comes into contact with said product? This is my question. If I need to clarify anything, please ask.

RE: Does this technology exist?

The "owner" can give a special coded signal, carry a
wireless key or recognized by physical characteristics e.g. fingerprint.

Fry's has a neat little USB dongle that locks your computer if you don't have a quarter-sized tab within a few meters of the dongle.  More than fits your size requirements, so search for something like that.
