Requirement on Wrought Product??
Requirement on Wrought Product??
(OP)
Our Client has specified some requirements on Wrought Product.
All along i thought that there are only 2 divisions (One is cast and all the other that are not cast and has a grain flow direction are wrought)
But some one tells me that (On ref to ASME Section II A and ANSI standards) that forgings are classified separately and Wrought material are classified separately (For example B 16.9 and B 16.11) hence by definition forgings and wrought product are different.
1)Is that so?
2)Now the question (Although being very basic in nature) is which product forms are classified under wrought product.
3)Is Pipe a wrought Product (I know 36.10 is dimension for wrought pipes, from this i take Seamless pipe as wrought)
4)Is welded pipe a wrought product(Since 36.10 is dimension applicable for Seamless and Welded pipe, i take Welded pipe is also a wrought product)
5)Does it mean Plate is Wrought. (There is no mention of Wrought word in SA 20)
6)Is a fitting made from plate a wrought product. (Pipe Cap- Covered under B 16.9)
7)Is a flange (Forged flange sa A 105) a Wrought product (The definition of Forging says that forging has a Wrought Micro structure)
8)Is Bar/Rod a wrought Product. Is a threaded fastener a wrought product (A 193 B 7M)
9)What is Cast Cold-Wrought (Reference to this term is made in A 530)
10) Under the classification of wrought, cast etc where do we place weld (Knowing the fact that weld is a cast form)
11)Do we have an ASTM/ASME/ANSI/AISI/SAE definition of Wrought?

RE: Requirement on Wrought Product??
Wrought is such a general term that it applies to final product forms that are supplied in near net shape, exclusive of castings. Castings have their own product specifications if supplied in near net shape as final product form. Using this general description, forgings would be a subset of wrought products with their own specific product specification.
If you deal with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, you will not find a specific definition or reference to wrought products.
I believe based on the above information, you should be able to answer your own set of questions.
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays
