Creating a cutout on a radial surface
Creating a cutout on a radial surface
(OP)
Greetings wiseones,
I am in need of suggestions on a method to put a cutout that is of uniform depth along a radial surface. Basically, I have a thin walled semi-sphere shape that is 2 mm thick, and I need to put grooves that are 1 mm deep on the out side. The groove need to run from the top down to the end of the semi-sphere.
Suggestions, please..
Thanks,

If I understand correctly what you are trying to achieve, you could also do it with a revolved or swept cut.

should it look something look like this (V14)? The features
are suppressed to save on size.

RE: Creating a cutout on a radial surface
in general or in case the sphere is quite shallow you could use
a different approach: extent the contour line above the top and
then use 'plane normal to curve' to create a plane at the end
of the extended contour line. Make sure it's at the endpoint of
the line (0 offset). On that plane sketch the cutout, make sure
to fixed it at the pierce point. Then use 'swept cutout' to
make the groove.
