Diesel exhaust stack temp
Diesel exhaust stack temp
(OP)
I am looking for representative data for a big rig-type engine. Specifically, I need the exit temperature at the end of the exhaust stack for a capture velocity calculation.
Engine manufacturer data is not easily available, so I need general figures. A quick search of earlier posts yielded manifold temperatures from 1000°F-1400°F, but I need the outlet stack temperature.
Can anyone recommend a suitable range?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Diesel exhaust stack temp
At the muffler outlet, the maximum temperature recorded was 740 F, and at that time the temperature 12" from the end of the stack was 701 F.
At this time, the pyrometer was showing slightly over 1000 F.
The mufflers were cab-mounted, so the total pipe lengths are shorter than if it were a behind-sleeper location.
This was with a 475 HP "yellow" engine.
How's that for a specific answer?
