Weld symbol--reinforcing or backing fillet
Weld symbol--reinforcing or backing fillet
(OP)
AWS A2.4 Fig. 7 implies that when no size is given for a reinforcing or backing fillet, then the fillet leg size is the same as the face width of the groove weld.
Is this the case? Is it explicitly stated anywhere in the text of A2.4?
Am I correct in thinking that the fillet weld size would then be the material thickness for a single groove and half the material thickness for a double groove?
(and should I really be asking this question in the AWS forum?)

RE: Weld symbol--reinforcing or backing fillet
Have you checked the index of D1.1 for Fillet weld---reinforcing?

RE: Weld symbol--reinforcing or backing fillet
Is it customary for one to leave off the reinforcing fillet dimensions on plan drawings and rely on that note?

RE: Weld symbol--reinforcing or backing fillet
IMO it must either be shown in the welding symbol(to the left of the fillet weld symbol..example: Fig 49 A2.4) or some note must be included in a conspicuous place, preferably the tail of the welding symbol....but I prefer the former.
