PDM Works trial

PDM Works trial

(OP)
Dear Folks;

I would like to try out PDM Works by loading in a small set of my clients existing autocad drawings and some of my own SW2006 files.

I am concerned about PDM works messing up the customers existing drawing database. Presently they use a customized version of AM Workflow by Cyco software. The Workflow software has been implemented poorly and presently creates more problems than it solves.

The workflow software does keep files innacessible while someone else is working on them but it cannot, for example, search for all GA drawings in the system, or perform any "where used" inquiries. There appear to be plenty of accessible fields in PDM works which could be used in these types of searches.

The Workflow maintained drawing database has all the drawings stored in folders segregated by job number. I am wondering if the PDMworks vault could be set up to take ownership of some of these files without moving them to a new location or altering them in any way. Hopefully just creating its own seperate records for them.

Does PDMWorks simply create a file record for each drawing with a link to that drawing? This is the way AM Workflow operates now. I have used PDM works before and know that it has better out of the box functionality than this "custom designed" workflow installation.

Any input from the PDM works experts would be most appreciated.

Best Regards

RE: PDM Works trial

With the proper setup, PDMW will do what you like. It is a file mnmgt software and can work well with ACAD dwgs.
