Procedure for releasing files?

Procedure for releasing files?

Procedure for releasing files?

(OP)
When we release a drawing we need to create an:

-IGES of the part
-DXF of the drawing
-DWG of the drawing
-PDF of the drawing

-Create backup copy of original part/assembly along with  drawing.

We also need to add the appropriate Rev at the end (123-45-678_RevA)

Is there a streamline approach for this?

Batch files? Mapkeys?

I'm not familiar with creating Batch files so the more details the better.

RE: Procedure for releasing files?

I am guessing that you don't have a data management system like Intralink controlling your file releases.
How many people are working on Pro/E in your office? If more than 3, you should invest in a PDM solution.

Mapkeys might be the best way to export all of the data types we require.

That is correct Ben. The company I work for does not use any type of data management tool (i.e. Intralink, PDM). And from what I hear, they don't want one.

We have a total of 15-20 ProE users here.

Thanks.

RE: Procedure for releasing files?

Withnthat many users, how do you prevent them stepping over each others files, using the same file name, etc?

Search paths can function for some of this, but it doesn't prevent 2 (or more) people from creating a new part with the same name and placing it in different folders. When an assembly is loaded, how does it know which component to load?

That's just it. WE DO have problems. From missing files, to multiple copies, it's really bad. I guess it really doesn't matter to management.

RE: Procedure for releasing files?

Calculate the time in lost productivity. Compare to the cost of implementing a PDM solution. Present the information and ROI to management.
