Target box forces for pneumatic conveying systems

Target box forces for pneumatic conveying systems

Target box forces for pneumatic conveying systems

(OP)
I am looking for a calculation to describe the reactions in a target/discharge box for pneumatic conveying systems. The systems include dilute phase, medium phase, and dense phase conveying of bulk powders. I have been using a stream flow calculation that, I beleive, is too conservitive.

RE: Target box forces for pneumatic conveying systems

The forces should be composed of two types: Static forces due to pressure differential multiplied by area plus any gravitational (dead weight) forces, and momentum forces caused by the rate of change of momentum within the control volume. The formula for the momentum forces is

F = mdot*dV / g

where dV is the change in velocity in a particular
direction in ft/s
mdot is the mass flow rate in lbm/s
g is 32.174 lbm*ft/(lbf*s^2)
