dimension line location

Is it possible to input distance from dimension line to dimensioned object from keyboard (eg. 20)? I tried to do it
after message:
"Specify dimension line location or
[Mtext/Text/Angle/Horizontal/Vertical/Rotated]:",
but i got different distance every time.
Also, is it possible to change this distance automatically depending on Viewport scale (like setting size of text, arrowheads etc. by Dimension->Update)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You should be able to use the "from" construct.
Specify dimension line location
From
pick the endpoint (for instance) of the object
@0,20

If you do this often, perhaps a macro is in order.

thanks! that's what I needed.

But is it possible to scale this distance?

RE: dimension line location

keekooceeaou,

2nd way: Use the osnap with otrack-> snap the midpoint, follow the track-> 20

I think it's not possible to scale this distance without an application like ADT,...

RE: dimension line location

What do you mean by "scale this distance"?

RE: dimension line location

(OP)
I meant automatic change of distance from dim. line to object.
Let's say that I set it to 20 units. When I print it in 1:1 scale, everything's fine. But when I set Viewport scale to 1:4 and then update dimensions, text, arrows etc. are bigger, but this distance stays the same. So, in my print it is 4 times smaller. It should change to 80 to match the scale.

But maybe I should force myself to dimension in paper space. That would solve the problem.

RE: dimension line location

Dimensioning in paper space will solve this issue.
