Flexible Connections for Pumps
Flexible Connections for Pumps
(OP)
Hi,
Can someone please let advise me on the following. I want to install a pump system and have decided to use in line pumps instead of end suction floor pumps which would require flexible connections. Pumps that I am using are quite bulky in size. 11Kw motor. Would I need to use flexible connections for the pump? If so then I would have to mount the pump on the floor which would definitely require flexible connections. I was planning to connect the pumps directly onto the pipe flanges and support from the pipe.
Regards,

RE: Flexible Connections for Pumps
Vertical close coupled, the pump has no bearing just a throttle sleeve, and the radial and vertical loads are carried by the motor. Either way your motor thrust bearing will be at the top. Is it designed for up and down thrust, or down thrust with momentary up thrust?
The coupling of choice on the close coupled has been the split clam shell, these pose some assembly problems but there are many in service and working fine. Basically a split bushing precision machined to fit your pump and motor shafts, with an axial adjusting button inside.
